Paladin

There are several types of NPC Paladins within Sosaria. Several are found in and around Trinsic. Then there is a small garrison of Paladins in the tower of Delucia. Within that tower would spawn two types of Paladins. One, a typical NPC Paladin similar as to what is found in Trinsic. The other, a bit different…

Enjoy this detailed description that Richard sent us:

G’day Stratics team,

I noticed you don’t have any info in the hunter’s guide about the creature ‘a paladin’. On the oceania shard I’ve come across them spawning irregularly in the watch tower at Delucia (73,20 S – 47,27 W).

When playing on my miner char (level 4 negative karma) I saw ‘a paladin’ flag grey and attack me on sight. I was mining in the corridor between the tower and the bank when one went into attack mode and proceeded to chase me for a fair way through the town before it got whacked. In guarded areas they may get whacked when they flag grey but more likely not until someone calls guards.

I went to investigate later with a bard character (level 1 positive karma). When I got there it had a blue flag. The paladin appeared to salute me when I approached with a positive character. I enticed it to the bank with no event until it attacked a character who was neutral notoriety (notable).

Note that the creature ‘a paladin’ is not the same as the npc class ‘Sandra the paladin’ etc. as these paladins are not agressive at any time.

Using a 2D client, ‘a paladin’ appears with no clothes on, bald, with pure white skin, carrying just a viking sword. Their paperdoll recieves the typical ‘mystic llamaherder’ title. It has the jungle bird sound that’s usually associated with wraiths and shades.

Using Evaluate Intelligence on ‘a paladin’ rated in the 80-89 bracket (well beyond extraordinary). Using Anatomy evaluation, he rated in the 100+ bracket for agility and strength (superhuman).

Using my bard I then enticed one to the city of the dead. It had no problems quickly disposing of the orc camps we passed on the way without hardly a dent to its health. *note I did not have to provoke as it automatically attacks negatively aligned creatures.

‘a paladin’ has the ability to cast, and when it does, the words of power are seen and the paperdoll briefly shows and equipped magic book. The spells it casts are greater heal and cure only. It usually attempts to heal when it gets whacked by guards.. eg: Waylan: Thou wilt regret thine actions, swine! a paladin: In Vas Mani

While observing the paladin fighting at City of the Dead it was quite capable of melee fighting against multiple orcs/lords/mages as well as skeletal/bone knights and mages simultaneously. He hits about as hard as a GM swordsman would with a plain viking sword. He took fairly low damage from the melee hits of multiple bone knights, especially considering he appeared to have no armor (although it would appear that he does from the provided 3d picture. He seems to have a large mana pool that rebuilds quickly and was quite capable of casting GHeal and Cure without interruption. His resist is fair, taking about 40-50% damage from bone magi flamestrikes. He would be able to resist magic poison about 1/3 of the time it was cast on him.

After observing the paladin at city of the dead for some time i enticed it into the central area and then left to log off for dinner. When I got back 30 minutes later it was still fighting away inside the main crypt building near the pentagram. Eventually the lich on the roof was killed and a new one spawned downstairs. Once the paladin had fought the lich for a while it eventually began to lose (must have been out of mana at the time). The loot on the paladin once it’s corpse was grey was as follows: 397 gold, a viking sword, an empty magic book, a gem and a scroll.

I hope this info is of some help in compiling the new uo3d section of the hunter’s guide,

Richard

Thanks Richard!

And adding to that: Using Paralyze, Poison or summoned creatures on a Paladin is of no use, but you can try to disarm him if you have the skill.
